"We will not stop till justice is given to farmers," said Raju Shetty, MP and president of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna on Friday evening after he came out of Yerawda Jail. A Baramati Court of Friday granted bail to Shetty following which he was released. The court has banned Shetty from visiting the districts of Baramati, Daund and Indapur.
Talking to reporters outside the jail, Shetty said, "We will fight till we are satisfied with the 'price per tonne' that would be given to us for the first installment. The state government has been using police as the instrument to divide and deter the farmers. But I have maintained that this fight is against 'sugar mafias' and not the police."
The farmers have been demanding at least Rs 3,000 per tonne as a first installment payment while sugar factories in the region have decided to pay them Rs 2,300 per tonne.
