Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Tuesday said that the state government will not allow Sri Ram Sene (SRS), that evoked national outrage by attacking girls and boys at a Mangalore pub in January, to set up a branch in the state.

"The SRS will not find any takers here in Goa. We will not hesitate in banning the outfit," Naik told reporters in Panaji.

The Home Minister was responding to the announcement made by SRS chief Pramod Muthalik that the organisation intends to start a branch in Goa.

Muthalik had made the announcement while addressing a rally at Vengurla in Maharashtra's Konkan region this week.

Naik said the SRS will not find any takers for their ideology in Goa.

"These kind of outfits should be nipped in bud. If they intend to indulge in moral policing here, they would be dealt with very seriously," the Home Minister said.

"Women are as free as men to decide what they want. Who are we to indulge in moral policing?" Naik said.

Following the pub attack, Muthalik was banned on Monday from entering Mangalore district for one year by the district administrator.

Ram Sene goonsBy: Hero Vaz | 18-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward The Ram Sene should try its shenanigans in Goa. They'll learn a lesson never to be forgotten.
MuthalikBy: SV Sivasubrahmaniam | 18-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward Muthalik is to be barred, boycotted isolated what not… in all respects. Such people are the divisive characters of the society. I strongly object his anti woman concept which he and his sene have shown at Mangalore pub. There may be some supporters out of fear “on the morality grounds” for their children particularly girl children. His concept of moral policing on women is highly deplorable. She has every right of what to do what not. Woman is no different from Man to live and move in the society. A thing, which is not good for woman is also not good for Man. And whether it is good or bad is to be decided by him or her; but definitely not these “Moral Polices”. So all the civilized societies and governments should condemn and barred such guys to move in the society.
