Raman Singh's clean image and populist economic programmes had helped BJP retain power in Chhattisgarh.
BJP leader Raman Singh was on Friday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh for the second consecutive term in the midst of thousands of supporters shouting slogans hailing him and the party.
The 56-year-old leader, who steered the party to a second term in power with his clean image, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor E S L Narasimhan at a function at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur.
The function saw presence of the top BJP leadership, including party chief Rajnath Singh and Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani. Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri and senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu were among others who attended the ceremony.
Punjab Chief Minister and SAD leader Parkash Singh Badal was also present though his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar, who is from JD-U, could not make it due to a delay in flight.
Adding the glamour quotient to the function was stars-turned MPs Hema Malini, Smriti Irani and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Congress' Chief Ministerial aspirant Ajit Jogi was also present.
This is the second consecutive term for the BJP in power since Chhattisgarh state was formed five years ago.
Armed with flags and banners, party supporters, who gathered at the Police Parade Ground, cheered and welcomed Singh as he took oath for the second time.
Singh's clean image and populist economic programmes like Rs 3/kg of rice for the needy, had helped BJP retain power in this tribal-dominated state.
