
Uttarakhand CID has started its probe into the case of encounter of 24 year old youth from Ghaziabad by Dehradun police following registration of a case against the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
A case of murder was registered in the matter in Raipur Police Station late on Monday night. The police personnel have also been charged with rioting while being armed with weapons and criminal intimidation.
Dehradun’s new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhinav Kumar told The Indian Express, “An FIR has been lodged against 14 police personnel on the basis of complaint lodged by victim’s father RP Singh.”
Regarding the role of Dehradun police in the further investigation of the case, he said, “We will facilitate the CID in its probe by providing them all the documents and other ways.”
The CID team headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vimla Gunjyal began its work from the Raipur Police Station. “We have started collecting documents pertaining to the case and will be visiting the site of the encounter soon besides talking to the eyewitnesses,” she said. She did not specify the time by which the probe would be over.
The team also inspected the motorbike that had been recovered from the spot on which the deceased Ranbir Singh was said to be attempting to flee. According to the police, the bike was a stolen one and belongs to a resident of Ahir village of Panipat in Haryana.
The purpose of Ranbir’s visit to Dehradun continues to be a mystery.
