Following the allegations made by a woman before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Behrampore that she was raped by the Rapid Action Force personnel, the judge has asked the sub-divisional police officer (Domkal) to ensure that the Raninagar police station’s general diary entry register and relevant records be submitted to him before June 9.
On May 27, a woman from a village near the Indo-Bangla border complained in-camera to CJM Shantanu Jha that three RAF men had raped her at her residence on
May 16. She also named the Officer-in-Charge and Additional OC of Raninagar in her complaint.
Juwel Sheikh, another villager, had also alleged assault by personnel of Raninagar police and RAF on May 16 in his complaint to the CJM.
On May 16 afternoon, the day LS poll results were declared, clashes erupted between Congress supporters celebrating the victory of party candidate Mannan Hossein and CPM cadres near Charbathanpara. Both sides used firearms and crude bombs, police said, during which Sub-Inspector Gopal Mondal, who rushed to the spot with a police team was killed.
Lawyers representing the woman said the CJM has also sent a copy of the order to the SP Murshidabad asking him to make arrangements for the medical examination of the victim. A copy has also been sent to the district chief medical officer.
“We are hopeful that after going through the records, the CJM will ask the police officers to appear in the court,” said advocate Sujit Majumdar, one of the lawyers representing the victim.
