Rape victim names BSP MLA in court

BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been suspended for the alleged rape of a girl at his residence, got into deeper trouble

BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been suspended for the alleged rape of a girl at his residence, got into deeper trouble on Tuesday when the girl,in an application before a local court, stated that the MLA had raped her twice, beaten and threatened her to keep quiet, and then framed her in a false case of theft.

This is the first time the girl has confirmed the allegations which have been made by her family members, and which have led to protests by political parties and social organisations. Not only is her story at variance with the police version, she has also stated that the MLA and his men beat her inside the police station.

The girl, who is lodged in Banda jail in the theft case, submitted the application when she was produced in the court of judicial magistrate Parvez Akhtar. She explained the sequence of events, starting from how she reached the MLA’s residence, said her advocate Ramhit Nishad.

According to the the girl, she tried to escape from the MLA’s residence when he wanted to rape her a third time. She was caught, beaten up,handed over to the police and a case of theft was slapped on her. However, police say they arrested the girl two days after she committed theft at the MLA’s residence,on a complaint lodged by the MLA’s son.

The court asked the Banda jail superintendent to send her application to the SP for necessary action. On an application moved by the girl’s advocate that she is a minor, the court directed the Chief Medical Officer of Banda to conduct a medical examination and submit a report by January 7. The court will take up the girl’s bail application the same day.
