Ratan Ka Rishta

It’s the third season of Swayamvar on Imagine. And this time,it’s primetime heroine,Ratan Rajput who the channel is giving over in marriage.

Swathed in yards of silk,zardosi and brocade,in elaborate hairdos and tons of jewellery,complete with maang tika and jhumkas,the emaciated Ratan,who struck primetime gold with her turn as the poor farmer’s daughter in Zee’s Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo,looks a bit out of place in this sad swayamvar. The glow of a wannabe bride is certainly missing despite layers of pancake and her 16 suitors,barring a couple of them,seriously make you reach out for your remote.

At the time of writing,the wedding tamasha was two grooms less. While she ‘eliminated’ one for being “too good”,the massive Dolly Bindra who arrived on an elephant (is PETA watching it?) dressed like a Christmas tree helped the aspiring bride in eliminating another.

There were four,who Ratan wanted “Dollyji” to check out. And so Dollyji in her inimitable loud style interrogated them and drew her own conclusions.

So far,the men besides the usual ‘intro’ sessions have been making pyaar ka nazranas (one had even planned two babies with her!) and writing love letters (someone should seriously teach them the art of writing one) while the bride blushed and smiled incessantly.

If the ‘boys’ aren’t sad enough,adding to her woes is Hiten Tejwani,who hardly smiles and talks somberly (Ram Kapoor in the earlier two seasons was much better). Someone should also tell him to go easy on the make-up.

Last but not the least,this season is particularly sad as Ratan is neither a nautanki queen like Rakhi Sawant nor a chupa rustom like Rahul Mahajan. She doesn’t bring anything to the table. She looks a tad uncomfortable with the entire proceedings. Also,she hardly looks someone for who 16 men would fight over!

Seriously,if she weren’t a TV beti,one doubts if anyone would give her a second look.
