Ravi Shankar, Vatsyayan on new Amarnath Shrine Board

  • Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra on Wednesday reconstituted the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) by appointing six new members.

    According to a notification issued here by the Governor in his capacity as chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Art of Living Movement founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Kapila Vatsyayan, Centre for Science and Environment director Sunita Narain, J&K Consumer Forum chief Justice G D Sharma (retd), santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Sanskrit scholar Dr Ved Kumari Ghai have been appointed members of the SASB for a period of three years.

    An SASB spokesperson said Justice Sharma has been reappointed for another term.

    Prior to the reconstitution of the new board, the Governor had accepted resignations of the former members — Justice G D Sharma (retd), Raghu Modi, Sunil Sachdev, Manoj Gaur, Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Vimla Dhar, Prof Neerja Mattoo and Prof Vishwa Murti Shastri.

    The SASB described the new members as persons of eminence, who have distinguished themselves in the service of religion and culture, social work, administration, legal affairs, financial matters and environmental management.
