  • Adding another twist to the ‘cash-at-judge’s-door’ scam, Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh, the prime accused in the case, admitted that the Rs 15 lakh, “wrongly” delivered to Justice Nirmaljit Kaur on August 13, belong to him.

But Singh clearly denied that the money was meant as bribe for the High Court judge, adding that he had given the money to Sanjeev Bansal, former Haryana Additional Advocate General and a co-accused in the case.

During custodial interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation today, Ravinder Singh confessed that Bansal had demanded the money on August 12.

“Ravinder said there was frequent exchange and lending of cash between him and Bansal. That is why he did not find it necessary to ask Bansal why he wanted the amount,” said a source.

Ravinder has also denied that he had called Bansal in New Delhi on August 13 and asked him to deliver the cash. “Rather, he said Bansal had called him on August 12 as well as the next day. On August 13, the two had lunch at one of Ravinder’s hotels after which Bansal left for Chandigarh,” added the source.

Earlier, Ravinder had repeatedly denied that the cash had belonged to him. The accused will be produced in a special CBI court on September 27 as his police remand lapses on Saturday.
