Recession hits consultancy projects at Panjab University

After placements,it is the turn of different services at Panjab University to be hit by the global recession.

After placements,it is the turn of different services at Panjab University to be hit by the global recession. At the Centre for Industry Institute Partnership in PU,authorities used to provide services like organising in-house seminars and workshops for different companies which has been put on hold now.

Officials say because of the meltdown, companies are trying to curtail their expenses in whatever manner they can. Professor Lalit Bansal,Director CIIPP said: “Companies would approach us for various projects but because of recession, they are hardly holding any workshops. We do not see many projects coming our way in near future. Only when the effect of the meltdown eases,we might get more projects.”

Placements at the university, meanwhile, too are going at a snails pace. While various departments recorded 100 per cent placement till last year, many students this year are waiting to find a job. At the University Business School, placements are through only for around 50 per cent students and at the University Institute for Engineering and Technology, only about 70 per cent students have been placed. This is in stark comparison with the previous years where most students would have two jobs in hands at one time. Porf Bansal added: “Recession has affected almost everything from placements to consultancies projects. Things will, however, improve.”
