The party claims that around 5,000 GLP cadres are still living in 35 camps, which are located in remote areas in the Hills. The GLP, comprising young boys and girls, was formed in 2008 and they were trained by ex-servicemen. In 2011, Bimal Gurung had pleaded for special changes in the eligibility criteria for the armed forces of the state and the Centre to absorb them.
