  • Expressing concern over the pitiable condition of roads and the sorry state of civic amenities in Panchkula, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered for spot inspection and rectification of problems at the site of Singh choe nullah.

Chief engineers of the Drainage departments of Punjab and Haryana as well as HUDA and GMADA have been directed to inspect the site and take corrective action if required. The directions were passed in wake of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Dr O P Munjal, a local resident. The petitioner had highlighted the deteriorating condition of Panchkula terming it ‘a poor cousin of Chandigarh’.

On Friday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and Justice Kanwaljit Singh Ahluwalia disposed of the PIL taking note of the fact that Panchkula and Mohali are covered under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and all grievances will be taken care of.
