If you thought film production was the forte of the wealthy, Pramod Prabhulkar’s workshop on the topic will help you bust that myth. “Creativity, social consciousness and literary knowledge of a person makes him a better producer than someone who banks only on monetary capital,” said Prabhulkar, who has about 13 years of experience in the field. The workshop, meant for anyone who is interested in the process of filmmaking, will include lessons on judging a good film script, budgeting, shooting intricacies, post production, censorship, distribution and so on.

The workshop, that is to take place for the first time in Pune, had seen about 110 participants in Mumbai last year. Prashant Pethe, who produced the critically acclaimed film Gabhricha Paus is a product of this workshop. Similarly, Vrinda Kirodiyan, producer of Sundar Maze Ghar also entered film production after attending this workshop.

Based in Mumbai, Kirodiyan and her husband used to run a business in logistics and supply chain for the last 20 years. “One day, I came across Prabhulkar’s advertisement about the workshop on post production and found it interesting enough to be part of it,” says Kirodiyan who is interested in films and drama. “The workshop not just helped me understand the film-making process, but also taught me ways of earning profit by being a part of it,” she said. Within just a year of attending the workshop, Kirodiyan took up the task of producing Sundar Maze Ghar, which was released recently.

Prabhulkar, who was the writer, director and producer for Goad Gupit and assistant director for Tu Tithe Mee conceived the idea of this workshop. Prabhulkar and his wife Madhurani Gokhale, who is also a model, had decided to choose this field as early as when they were 16 years old. “We had to go through a lot of struggle finding our path with no one to guide us. After 13 years of experience, film production continues to be a mystery for the common man. I felt the need of de-mystify this excellent career option for anyone interested in filmmaking,” Prabhulkar said, adding that there are at least 50 different career opportunities in the process, which are not being explored.
