BJP president Rajnath Singh seems to have developed a fascination for famous German physicist Werner Heisenberg. At the partys national council meeting recently,Singh had spoken at length about Heisenberg, saying that the physicist had benefitted from the philosophy of Veda in India in proposing his world-famous Uncertainty Principle. On Wednesday, while speaking at the womens press club, the BJP president, himself a physics teacher, brought up a mention of Heisenberg again, this time saying Heisenberg had once said that one can understand India only by living here.
COLLISION COURSE
IIT Kharagpurs reluctance to revoke the unduly long suspension of a whistle-blower professor is beginning to irk the HRD Ministry in New Delhi. The ministrys communication asking the IIT to revoke Prof Rajeev Kumars suspension has elicited no response from the institute so far. What has been annoying the ministry more is a seemingly conscious attempt by the institute to challenge central authorities. Only recently, the IIT had caused a major embarrassment by questioning the jurisdiction of the CVC over itself. In no mood to forget or forgive, the ministry has sent another strongly worded letter to the IIT asking it to let the whistle-blower carry on with his academic work.
CUT SHORT
SOME senior officials of the Home Ministry were conducting a workshop on terror financing for top police officials from the states when news of the Bangalore blast came in. The workshop was meant to educate the police officers,of the level of IGs,DIGs,and SPs,on recent amendments in terror laws like UAPA with a special focus on terror financing, one of the biggest problem areas. Almost the entire internal security division of the Home Ministry, including its boss,Special Secretary S Jayaraman, was present at the workshop. The proceedings had to be cut short because of the Bangalore blast. Police officers from Bangalore,Hyderabad and the neighbouring areas prepared to leave for their respective cities by the earliest available flights.
DEDICATED WEBSITE
FOREVER seen to be playing second-fiddle to their IAS counterparts, officers belonging to the Indian Police Service have drawn parity,at least in one respect. Just as the IAS,the IPS officers now have a website for themselves. The Home Ministry recently launched this website that will contain the civil list of all the IPS officers, their immovable property returns, latest circulars and orders, laws and rules, list of police medal awardees and other information related to police services. Each officer will be given a login to access information that would not be available publicly and also to communicate with each other. All IPS officers will also be issued a new email address.
