With monsoons offering no respite to the state, the Department of Relief is now mulling over the idea of providing relief measures to various districts.

The department has already received reports of drought-like condition in Bundelkhand and Vindhayachal region and district Allahabad.

The state government has instructed the district Disaster Management Committees of the Bundelkhand and Vindhyanchal districts to survey the conditions in the districts and send reports and details for emergency requirements to the relief department.

According to an official from the office of the relief commissioner, the districts have already conducted their base surveys about the water level and the soil condition, which have been reported to the department.

“It will now be the job of the district Disaster Management Committee to not just verify the situation, but also decide on their emergency services that should be provided in these areas,” said the official.

While the district administrations have been asked to inform the panchayats to keep a check on the condition of the handpumps in the rural areas, the UP Jal Nigam has been asked to do the same for the urban areas.

The department has also ordered weekly survey and check of the handpumps and immediate repairs in certain cases.

The UP Jal Nigam has also been asked to ensure supply of water tankers on subsidised rates. The concerned Additional District Magistrates have been asked to verify the water supply made through tankers in emergency situations.
