Relief scheme for senior citizens to be launched today

Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi in association with the Federation of Senior citizens of Maharashtra will launch 'Lokmanya Kavach Suvarna Yojana', a relief scheme for senior citizens, on Saturday.

Dr Narendra Vaidya, managing director, Lokmanya Hospital, and Nilakanth Kodolikar , chairman, Fescom, said the salient feature of the scheme is to ensure senior citizens avail of advance treatment at discounted rates without any difficulty.

Vaidya said senior citizens have health problems in added proportion and owing to the age limit they do not get any assuring insurance coverage. If at all they get any insurance coverage, they are disappointed by the stringent conditions of the companies. In such a situation, 'Lokmanya Kavach Suvarna Yojana' will benefit senior citizens as under the scheme they can avail of advanced medical facilities at discounted rates, he said.

People above 55 years of age can only be part of the scheme. Widows and divorced senior women will be given special discounts while their relatives can also avail discounts. All types of ailments, including earlier ailments, will be treated under the scheme. The beneficiaries can avail a discount of 40 per cent in OPD, 25 per cent in IPD and 25 per cent in diagnostics. Special discount of Rs 5,000 in addition to 25 per cent discount will be given to patients admitted first in the IPD section and if the bill amount is more that Rs 25,000.

The member's relatives and associates will get 10 per cent special discount in the IPD section, provided a recommendation letter from the Fescom dignitary is submitted with in 24 hours of admitting a patient in the hospital. The benefits will be effective after one month from registration. To avail this facility, a member will have pay registration fees of Rs 100 and membership fees of Rs 4,000, for combined registration of husband and wife Rs 7,000 and Rs 3,800 for widows, divorced women. The scheme is valid for two years and will come into effect from April 2013.
