Police said the accused had gone to Shetty’s house for some maintenance work a day before the murder. When they realised that he lived alone, they planned to rob him the next day. On March 26,they strangled Shetty and decamped with Rs 15,000 and goods that included a camera and mobile phones. They, however, could not find Rs 1 lakh that was kept in the house, police added.

“Local security guards described the youths who had visited Shetty. Then we launched a hunt for tenants who had recently moved out from areas around Chakarpur village where a large number of labourers live. We zeroed-in on one such tenant,” said Jagdish Prasad,SHO,Sector-29.

Shetty’s body was discovered by his domestic help,Suraj, when he returned from leave after Holi. Police have ruled out his involvement in the case.
