A selection controversy rocked the Indian cricket team on Saturday following reports that Mahendra Singh Dhoni had threatened to resign as captain after he had failed to ensure that bowler RP Singh was retained in the side playing the current ODI series against England.

On the eve of the fourth ODI against England, a livid Dhoni did little to dampen the speculation about resignation threat when he said that ‘something or the other leaks out’ but stopped short of denying the reports.

Dhoni apparently wanted R P Singh, who gave away 49 runs without taking a wicket in the second ODI after which he was dropped and the selectors replaced him with Irfan Pathan.

"I don't know from where the reports came from. It cannot be a report. What happens inside while the selectors and the captains are there, if it comes comes out, it is disgusting, it's disrespecting. Things like these should not happen," Dhoni said.

"I am not talking about whether something or not happened in the selection meeting. Over the years, we have found out something or other goes out. We go to see, we are at the highest stature because we are selecting 16 guys for the Indian team.”

"We will have debate inside and things like this should not come out. I think if they are suppose to come out, it's better we have a live television out there because what comes out. Nobody should know apart from the eight guys who are sitting down," Dhoni said.

    ... contd.

DhoniBy: ketan | 25-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Besides the selectors , dhoni as a captain should be allowed to express his opinion. some internal person has actually leaked out this information which is not correct.
A member of cricket Selection Committee is stooge of media and does not deserve to be in the committee.By: Edie | 24-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward BCCI must look into the leak episode. Selection committee has a media stooge who is leaking information for money. This guy is very dangerous for Indian cricket. Find him out and expose in public and ban him for life. This single individual's presence in selection committee will cost India many series and world cup. BCCI and media should be aware of and so is common fans. Most of the fqns have played stupids and jumped to criticise Dhoni when they should have been gunning for propreity and integrity from selection committee members.
Why BCCI asks captains to be a part of the selection if selectors do not need captains input?By: Dinesh | 24-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Dhoni is aboslutely right. You need to give a chance to players to prove themselves. There should not be double standard in the selection. Dravid has not been scoring since three series but is still in test team why? because you want to give him more chances to come up. RP has been out due to injury and did not perform well in two matches he is out why? Why you can not give RP a chance to work out in remaining 3 inconsequential matches. It may do wonders for his confidence. Remember RP has proven himself before and if you are making a team for world cup you need to have 5-6 bowlers just in case one or two of your front line bowlers get injured. Dhoni is absolutely right to demand a team of his choice. Otherwise why you ask captain to be present during selection.
Dhoni stay out By: tina | 24-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Dhoni should be asked to stop interfering and leave it to the selectors to do the job.
