Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, director of the much-acclaimed Lahore,is on top of the world. One of the major production houses in the west,Hollywood Gang, who produced films like 300 and Everybodys Fine, have expressed their interest in remaking the film and have approached Chauhan to acquire the rights. Chauhan himself might direct the film that will have a new cast of actors from Hollywood.
We have been approached by Scott Carr, director,Development,Hollywood Gang Production House. Lahore already had an international crew including Wayne Sharpe who did the background score,Tony Leung, the action director, international vocalist Lisbeth Scott who sung for the film and Rob Miller, who served as our sports consultant. I have been requested to sell all the rights for the films remake and there is a possibility of my directing the film again, Chauhan says over the phone. The subject of vendetta and strife in the context of sports might have attracted the Hollywood producers to the film,he says. However,Chauhan adds that he will part with the rights only on the condition that his script is not tampered with.
Vivek Khatkar, producer at Sai Om Films Pvt Ltd,confirms the news, pointing out that things are at a very nascent stage. Producers in the west do not divulge much information till the project hits the floors. But they did contact us a month back and showed interest in our film. They are planning a remake and we are about to finalise the deal, says Khatkar.
Lahore was released in India by Warner Bros and was produced by Sai Om Film Pvt. Ltd. Set against the backdrop of Indo-Pakistan relations, the film is about kickboxing.
