The film Krantiveer Rajguru, based on Rajgurus life, promises to reveal unknown facets of his personality
The heroic deeds of radicals in the Indian national struggle like Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh have long been popularised and immortalised across the nation. And when a special screening of the Marathi movie Krantiveer Rajguru, directed by Ashok Kamle, was held in the city on Monday the same glorious past resurfaced, albeit with a twist. The period drama will, for the first time, tell the story of the three legendary revolutionaries through the eyes of Rajguru.
Often called the Unsung or Forgotten Hero, the role of Rajguru has been reprised by Chinmay Mandlekar. About his character Mandlekar says,It was a very challenging role, but my job was made easier by the research team. I have gone without make-up in the movie so this was a completely new experience. In other patriotic movies Rajguru has been cast as the funny man who provides comic relief but that perception is wrong. In this movie you will see that he was,in fact,an impatient and volatile man who was incredibly passionate about his cause. He also adds that the making of the movie has had a tremendous impact on him and the one thing he hopes to imbibe from his reel self is the courage and conviction of the national hero.
A period film is always more difficult to make and about the experience Pankaj Vishnu who plays Bhagat Singh says, Its always exciting to work in a period drama as you are in a completely different era with unique costumes, sets and looks. Specific to my character,I always felt a need to bring something new to the table because this is one role that has been played by many others over the years.
The film is set to hit theatres across the state on May 16 and hopes to revive interest and pride in Maharashtrian champion while also inspiring the youth to be passionate and focused like the protagonist.
