Defining senior
The FM deserves praise for his Budget, and specifically for raising the exemption limit for tax assessment of senior citizens. However, there’s a problem — most Union ministries and departments as well as those of the states define senior citizens as people over the age of 60 while, for the Budget, a senior citizen is a taxpayer above 65. The Centre must endeavour to remove this discrepancy.

Last analysis
The Union Budget sent out wrong signals to the markets. There was no attempt at innovation and the FM merely fired from his limited ammunition. However, senior citizens, women taxpayers and the aam aadmi have reasons to be happy. The fiscal deficit is almost unmanageable now; but the Budget did show continuity with the last one.
