Lucknow fencer Ritu Singh bagged a gold in the sabre event (women’s section) of the fencing tourney organised as a part of the State Games. The second and last phase of the State Games came to a close at KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow on Tuesday. In the epee event of the women’s section,Bhawna Katiyar of Kanpur bagged a gold. In the foil event,Divyanshi Dixit of Farrukhabad won the gold.
In the mens hockey final,Gorakhpur defeated Lucknow by 1-0. The all-important goal was netted by Naseem in the 37th minute of the play. In the match played to decide the third place,Rampur beat Varanasi by 1-0.In handball,Allahabad defeated Lucknow by 16-11 goals in the womens section while in the men’s section,UP Police beat Dogra Regiment by 36-30 in the final which was a real treat to watch. The score at half-time was 16-15 in favour of UP. T Ram,managing director UP State Bridge Corporation and Mahesh Gupta (IAS) gave away the prizes to the winners.
Sports meet
Special Olympics Bharat,Lucknow will be organising a sports meet for differently-abled children at LDA Stadium,Aliganj,Lucknow on February 9 and 10. About 300 children are expected to take part in the meet,informs Suresh Chandra Pant,Co-ordinator for Lucknow District Special Olympics,Bharat.
