Autopsy report indicates Aditi drowned, parents not convinced

The family of Aditi Ghatak, the granddaughter of late film director Ritwik Ghatak who died under mysterious circumstances yesterday, has filed a murder complaint naming her friend Gyanjeet Path as an accused.

Gyanjeet is absconding and is yet to be arrested.

Police, however, maintained that it was a case of drowning.

The investigating officers of Sonarpur police station said they had received the preliminary post-mortem report, which indicated that Aditi died due to drowning. No alcohol or drugs was found in her stomach, they added.

Sonarpur OC Prosenjit Banerjee said it was a case of accidental drowning as Aditi could not swim. The other three — Tanya, Riddhi and Gyanjeet — could swim and so they had survived.

Sangeeta Ghatak, Aditi's mother, said it was "cold-blooded murder". She said Aditi was introduced to Gyanjeet by one of her best friends Alisha Poddar, and that Alisha was responsible for the incident.

"Aditi knew Alisha from childhood as they studied in the same school. I had warned my daughter several times not to mix with her as she often convinced Aditi to share her pocket money with her. She often came to our house and stay back," Sangeeta alleged.

On November 30, Aditi was staying with her grandmother at Chetla. Alisha met her there and the duo went to a coffee shop in Lake Gardens. There they met Gyanjeet and his two friends. While Alisha left the coffee shop early, Aditi, Gyanjeet and his friends went for a drive to Kheyada in Sonarpur. They had an accident at Kheyada. The car turned turtle and the four fell into a canal.

Locals said that while three of them survived, Aditi was found in the canal in critical condition. She was rushed to a nearby hospital on EM Bypass where she died on Sunday.
