  • Former deputy commissioner of the detective department of the Kolkata police Ajay Kumar, ACP Sukanti Chakrobarty and Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das were remanded to 14-day jail custody on Tuesday in connection with the Rizwanur Rehman death case.

The CBI, which investigated the case following a order of the Calcutta High Court, had filed a chargesheet in the case on September 22. The three police officers were charged with criminal intimidation and conspiracy in abetting the suicide. According to the chargesheet, the three were involved in coercing Rizwanur to break up the marriage with Priyanka Todi.

The officers are among the seven accused in the case. State Home Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarty said if the officers spend more than 48 hours in jail, they would be suspended from service as per the existing service rules.
