  • A day after the Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file chargesheets against the accused in the Rizwanur Rehman death case, CBI said on Saturday that they have enough evidence to nail the seven, including the police officials.

According to CBI sources, the investigation is complete and details being worked out to chargesheet the accused. “We are also exploring the possibility of arresting the accused before the chargesheets are filed. The charge will be modified to abetment to suicide,” an official said.

Computer graphics designer Rehman’s body was found near the railway tracks at Patipukur on September 1, 2007. The CBI had concluded it was a case of suicide, and not murder. “We are just waiting for the three-week stay period that the honourable court has granted for filing of appeals against the order. We can then file the chargesheets in the lower court,” the CBI official added.

Initially, the CBI filed a case of murder against Rehman’s father-in-law and industrialist Ashok Todi and others at the Bankshall court, after the High Court asked them to investigate the case.

The seven accused would be charged with criminal conspiracy, abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation. Rizwanur’s wife Priyanka Todi will be a prime witnesses during the hearing.

Meanwhile, the accused, are working on their defence and are expected to file petitions before a division bench of the High Court within the coming three weeks.
