Allegedly outraged her modesty when she gone to buy ticket

A railway ticketing clerk was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman commuter.

The accused,Ramesh Keni (33),allegedly acted in inappropriate manner with the victim when she came to the counter at Mulund station for buying a ticket. He allegedly followed the victim up the bridge and held her shoulder. The victim then ran into a train and approached the GRP at Kurla after being joined by her employer from Vikhroli.

The police have registered a case under section 354 of the IPC and will produce Keni in court.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kurla Division) B Thomre said: “The incident took place at around 9:50 am. So far we don’t know of any past complaints against the accused but are investigating into the matter. As far as we know, this is the first time he saw the victim.” Her employer Kushal Chinjinagra,a freelance photographer, said: “My employee went to Mulund station to buy a ticket in the morning as her pass had expired. When she reached the counter,Keni asked her to come inside the office,as he wanted to talk to her. She got frightened. Later, when she started climbing the bridge,he came out and followed her up and held her shoulder. This frightened her even more and she rushed into a train from where she called me. I met her at Vikhroli station and took her to the police where she identified the man.”

Asked if the victim always travelled from Mulund station and had mentioned any such thing before,he said,“She travels from either Mulund or Thane regularly. Since she has a pass, she never went to ticket counters and never interacted with any ticketing clerks.”
