Road safety week concludes on a promising note

Observed in the first week of January all over the country every year,the commemoration of the Road Safety Week by the Chandigarh Traffic Police concluded with a cultural extravaganza at the Traffic Park in Sector 23 on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police S K Jain flagged off two traffic interceptors,which have been inducted in the fleet,on the occasion.

The seven-day workshop on road safety comprised a number of awareness programmes which were successful in inculcating road safety awareness in the residents,said Traffic SP H S Doon. The programmes included scooter rally of girls to promote driving with helmets,panel discussion on road safety at All India Radio,three workshops for auto-rickshaw drivers,first-aid workshop for PCRs and traffic personnel,workshop for cycle-rickshaw pullers and also a workshop for bus drivers.

On the concluding ceremony today,a painting competition for schoolchildren was organised. S K Jain delivered a speech apprising the management of traffic in the city and various measures being taken by the Chandigarh Police for better traffic management.

Prizes were also given to the winners of various activities including painting competition,blood donation camp,training workshops for TSR drivers,heavy and light drivers,rickshaw pullers,outstanding traffic marshals and outstanding police officers.
