Robbers hold family of security firm owner hostage,decamp with cash,jewellery

A gang of six robbers broke into a house in Northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden area and held a family of five hostage for three hours before making away with cash and jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh in the early hours of Thursday,police said.

The incident was reported from GTB Enclave. According to the police,the house belongs to 70-year-old Varun Grover,who runs a security business with his son Amit in Chawri Bazaar,police said. The complainant informed the police that “The family went to bed early on Wednesday night. Around 3 am on Thursday,six men jumped the boundary wall,broke the main door of the house and gained entry. They went to Amit’s room,where he was sleeping with his wife Sonia and two children,Jayesh (10) and Poorvi (13)”.

The according to the victims,the assailants were armed,and held the four at gunpoint before beginning to ransack the house, police said. “The children started crying. Hearing the commotion,Varun came out to see what was going on. One of the assailants tried to gag him,but when the latter resisted,he was hit on his head with the butt of a pistol,after which he began to bleed profusely,” said a police officer. When Sonia tried to intervene,the assailant slapped her and pushed her to the ground.

“For three hours,four of the gang continued to ransack the house,while two held the family hostage. The victims said that before leaving,the robbers threatened the family with dire consequences if they disclosed the incident to anyone,” said the officer.

The family then informed police,after which a case of dacoity was registered at the Dilshad Garden police station. “Forensic experts are working on the case and investigations are on to nab the culprits,” said the officer.
