The UT Administration seems to pay no heed to UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues’s (retd) orders. On Friday, Rodrigues had ordered immediate termination of contracts of Bed and Breakfast operators found flouting norms prescribed under the scheme. Further, he had ordered that plots of those caught violating norms be resumed. But even formal notices haven’t been served to these operators yet.
While the Administration has disapproved their accommodations, they continue to display boards, which read “Approved by Chandigarh Administration”, and flout norms.
A delegation of B&B operators had met Secretary (Home-cum-Tourism) Ram Niwas on Monday and requested him to take a fresh look at the scheme.
But Niwas reportedly made it clear that since they were caught violating norms, action would follow based on General Rodrigues’s orders.
“The entire scheme has been scrapped as of now. It will be vetted by the UT Estate Office and readvertised after necessary modifications. Those interested can apply once the scheme is readvertised,” a senior official said. “We have instructions from the top to terminate contracts of all those found misusing residential property for commercial activities.”
Commenting on the delay in issuing notices, the official said, “The orders were issued to the concerned departments, who are in the process of implementing them. The termination orders will be issued to the violators by Wednesday.”
Rodrigues had issued orders against these operators after the media widely exposed violations by these operators, who were running guesthouses under the garb of B&B accommodations.
Subsequently, the Administration had constituted a team of officials, which inspected each and every B&B accommodation in the city and submitted a report around two months ago.
