Rogi kalyan samitis to go,govt to now appoint regular doctors

In fact,the doctors appointed by these committees at some of the leading hospitals — both in rural areas and the tribal belt — have already quit. They have been demanding changes in the terms of their services and regularisation of their jobs as early as possible.

Health Minister Rajeev Bindal said the government had once again revived the appointment of doctors through HPPSC and this would continue in future. With the doctors’ association warning to proceed on strike and boycott emergency services from August 12 to 14,the health minister said looking at demands of the doctors,the government had decided to go for regular appointments and has appealed to them not to boycott work.

“After consultation with the association of medical officers and doctors appointed under RKS,during my recent Dharamsala tour,the government had arrived at a conclusion to start regular appointments to protect the interests of doctors,” said Bindal.

“It was a scheme that was worked out after a lot of consultations and was quite an innovative one,which was later adopted by the Union Ministry of Health,” recalled an official at the Health Directorate.
