It was a good day at the office. I will take a five-under on the second day at the DGC any day, and this being the Hero Honda Indian Open, I have no complaints. With that 67, I am now six-under and that puts me in a decent position before the weekend.
It was overall a good round though I had a couple of bad shots. Starting on the tenth, I knocked a 35-foot putt from the edge of the green for my first birdie and that set me in a great mood.
On the 14th, I hit a driver and followed up with a 6-iron to 15 feet and sank that putt for an eagle. I remember having done that once earlier in some domestic event on the same hole. Then with birdies on the 15th, 17th and 18th, but a bogey on 16th — where I missed an up-and-down after getting into the left rough —I was still five-under for the first stretch and that was great.
On the back nine, with two bogeys and two birdies and a fine par save on the ninth, I felt good when I came off.
I am not going to get ahead and think about positions. One of the best things I liked about my round was that I was fairly consistent and found a lot of greens and made some good putts — for birdies and also to save par. Any time you save par from a difficult situation it feels great — a shot saved is a shot gained.
