A trippy adaptation of one of Rabindranath Tagore's works is going to be India's only feature film premiering at this year's Rome Film Festival, to be held from November 9 to 17. Tasher Desh, directed by Q (Qaushik Mukherjee) and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, will not just premiere in the festival but will also compete in its Cinema XXI section, which selects films that push the boundaries of filmmaking. "The most important thing about such an international film festival is the line-up of films against which mine will compete. Thirty films from across the world have been chosen and it is an honour to compete against directors, such as Elisabetta Sgarbi and Thomas Heise," says Q, whose last film Gandu, despite being lauded in international film festivals, didn't get a release in India due to its explicit sexual content. However, Tasher Desh, a take on Rabindranath Tagore's dance drama by the same name, put in the mould of Q's style of experimental cinema, is expected to release early next year in India.
