Sinking their differences, the ruling Congress and Opposition TDP on Monday knocked on the doors of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to force Maharashtra to stop construction of the Babhali project.
Although the issue acquired fresh urgency in view of the Assembly bypolls in the Telangana region, parties in the state are also competing with each other in playing the Telugu pride card over the dam row.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah led the all-party delegation comprising Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Chandrababu Naidu and Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi which asked the PM to direct Maharashtra to dismantle the gates it has installed at the Babhali barrage and stop all construction activities.
If upper riparian states were to go on constructing like this irrespective of the directions of the Supreme Court and the Central Water Commission, what would happen to states like ours, Rosaiah said.
