Rough edges develop in Trinamool,Congress relations

Mamata had recently opposed Teesta accord and refused to accompany PM on Bangladesh trip.

Rough edges have developed in relations between the state’s ruling coalition partners Trinamool Congress and Congresss, less than four months after they had joined hands in ousting West Bengal’s Left Front from power in the state.

A section of PCC in West Bengal is prodding the party’s national leadership that the party should go it alone in next panchayat polls in 2013,given the stand of Trinamool towards Congress.

A delegation, consisting of some MLAs,district presidents and a handful of PCC general secretaries, had met AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi here yesterday with their complaints against Trinamool.

The delegation also had meetings with Congress Working Committee member in charge of West Bengal Shakeel Ahmed here as also AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi to place the demand for going it alone in next panchayat poll and complain about alleged poaching by Trinamool on Congress’ workers and the fight across the state over party offices.

At AICC briefings, party spokespersons have downplayed the differences, maintaining everything could be sorted out through talks.

Banerjee had recently opposed the proposed Teesta river water-sharing accord with Bangladesh and refused to accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his visit to that country.

Despite her party being part of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre,Mamata did not attend Saturday’s meeting of the National Integration Council here and her party also opposed certain provisions of the proposed bill against communal violence drafted by Sonia Gandhi-led NAC.
