Geet Brar has a secret and she keeps it close to her heart, in a place she calls the "nook of inspiration." Brar follows this beat and sways to its rhythm. The 27-year-old is one of the few Punjabi women to open her own music studio in Chandigarh — UK Music Studio — which is a platform to groom and promote new talent. "At present, we are focusing on Punjab. We will soon scout for talent across India," says Brar, who launched the studio in Chandigarh this week, with the release of an album titled Sikander by Punjab-based singer Sikander.

Born and raised on a diet of traditional folk Punjabi songs in Patiala, Brar believes music is the way to connect with everyone. So, this MBA degree holder quit her human resource job in Chandigarh and decided to become an entrepreneur and give a boost to the music industry in Punjab. "Usually, it is the artiste who has to do all the investment to find a place in this competitive market, but we decided to be with the artiste from the word go,'' explains Brar.

The plan is well thought of — talent acquisition teams across various cities will spot budding artistes, select the best talent through auditions and then get a team of music directors and lyricists, on board, to produce quality music. "Work does not stop with one album. We will be promoting the artiste, supporting him or her through digital platforms, shows and more albums," says Brar. Films too are on the cards, but right now it's music that has Brar completely absorbed. "We have signed more artistes, including a young singer Zara, who will be releasing her album next month," she says.
