Triggering a fresh set of problems for Maharashtra’s Home Minister RR Patil, the State’s Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has blamed the State Home Minister RR Patil of evading his call of duty during the Mumbai terror attack by staying indoors and refusing to visit the venue.

Speaking in an interview to a newspaper, Nationalist Congress Party leader and present Deputy CM Bhujbal has talked about what was happening in the administration, when Mumbai was under attack by terrorists last year.

Bhubal has reportedly said that despite trying hard to Congress leader and the then State Home Minister RR Patil, he didn’t accompany him to the place of incident and preferred to stay inside his home.

He has said that he asked Patil that even if he didn’t want to visit the place of incident, he should visit the DGP (State’s Deputy General of Police) office at least. On this, Patil asked me to move on and he would follow me later to the venue.

“I asked RR Patil about the firing. I went to his home and told him that I wanted to visit the places where firing was going on. I asked him to accompany me. He told me that the police had asked him not to step out as a precautionary measure. I tried to convince him that we should at least visit the office of the Director General of police. After discussing the matter for 15 minutes, I told him that I would go. ''You carry on. I will catch you later, he told me,” he said.

Minister or goonBy: Anirban Mukherjee | 25-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward %u201CI saw a news flash on TV that there had been some firing near Leopold Cafe. Initially I thought it was a fight between Shiv Sainiks and Abu Azmi. After some time I realised something was seriously wrong. I took my revolver and stepped out of the home. I had a gut feeling that something big had happened and I should rush to help people,%u201D said Bhujbal to a question about how he first learnt about the Mumbai terror attack. So, a minister rushes out with his revolver in response to an emergency like a potential (at that time, since Mr. Bhujbal apparently did not know it was a terror attack at that time) terror attack? How does one expect the police, bureaucracy, judiciary, executive, media and civil society to function if ministers and politicians are going to take the law into their own hands at the slightest instance of trouble? And how can anyone guarantee then that a repeat of 1946-48, of 1984, of 1992, of 1993, of 2002 and and all other such black years can and will be averted?
Error in the articleBy: sudheer | 25-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward RR Patil is not from the Congress Party. He is from NCP.
