  • The state government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore on Friday for rebuilding houses, which were fully or partially damaged by Cyclone Aila.

The meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday, took stock of the situation of particularly three districts — North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore, where around 50 lakh people were affected by the cyclone.

“We have also decided to put up a list of beneficiaries in the panchayat offices to maintain transparency in the process,” said state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta.

According to Dasgupta, the state government has distributed Rs 20 crore among the farmers to buy good quality seeds. The government has also earmarked Rs 345 crore for rehabilitation works and providing drinking water to the affected people.

The state government had asked for Rs 1,000 crore for Aila relief, which was granted in the Union Budget by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Dasgupta said the Central government had sanctioned Rs 478 crore for Aila relief and the money would reach the state government soon.
