Rs 206 cr approved for sports complex in Azam’s home district

Cabinet Minister Azam Khan's home district Rampur will get modern sports complex costing Rs 206 crore. Spread over 20 hectares, the proposed complex will be similar to the one at Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav's native village Saifai in Etawah.
The state government has given the approval for the project. The sports complex will have state of the art facilities for training and practice of various sports, including cricket, badminton, table tennis, football, swimming, and gymnastics. It will have coaches, hostel facility for 300 boys and 150 girls, a medical centre, a shopping complex, a library, an auditorium, and the administrative block.
There will be open and covered pavillions in the athletics stadium, hockey astroturf with covered pavillions, cricket stadium with open and covered pavillions, a swimming complex with all-weather swimming pool, badminton, basketball, table tennis courts separately practice and events, a gymnasium complex with olympic standard facilities, outdoor courts for lawn tennis and volleyball.
The complex will also have a shooting range. Khan had earlier requested Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to shift the existing shooting range at Lucknow to Rampur, but the CM turned it down. For acquiring land for the sports complex, a sum of Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned by the state government.
"We have received sanction for the land and construction of the boundary from the Finance Department. The remaining budget will be released soon. Some allocation may be done in next year's budget but the construction will start very soon," said Suresh Chandra, Sports Secretary.
