The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is inquiring into the J-K sex abuse scandal, has announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information to nab former Additional Advocate General Anil Sethi, sources said here today.
Sethi has been on the run since he was named by the teenaged abuse victim. He did not surrender to CBI even after Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, issued an arrest warrant against him on June 5 and declared him a proclaimed offender on June 14. Sethi had been given until July 15 to surrender, failing which his property was to be attached.
The CJM had also directed that the order be published in newspapers, so that it receives wide publicity. Sethi, sources say, figures prominently on the list of persons named by the victim. His decision not to give himself up has put him in more bad light, making him the ‘‘centre of suspicion’’.
‘‘CBI is taking the case very seriously. We may produce the preliminary challan in a few days,’’ sources said.
The J-K High Court which again heard the sex abuse case for two hours today adjourned it till Tuesday. A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Hakeem Imtiaz Hussain and Justice B A Kirmani today heard the case for more than two hours. Hearing was adjourned after going through the CBI case dairy and assessing the progress made so far. The court also examined the report submitted by the nominated three-member team comprising two lawyers and a doctor, which had visited the minor victim on the direction of the court.
