Around Rs 20 lakh in cash and jewellery of an equal amount were robbed by one Rajeev Jain along with a friend from his relative Rajesh Jain's house in Rishi Nagar on Friday afternoon.
However, the police nabbed Rajeev within four-five hours of the crime along with Rs 13 lakh in cash and 177 grams of jewellery as well.
Two more accused, Roshan Lal and Jassi, are still on the run.
The incident happened when Rajeev, a relative of Rajesh Jain running a hosiery unit, came to give a wedding invitation card at Rajesh's house along with his friend Roshan Lal. Rajeev was working as an employee in Rajesh's unit. He met Rajesh's wife Sugandha at home. The duo was made to sit in the living room while the servant made tea. Sugandha's son Sakshar came home and he too sat in the living room.
According to Sugandha's statement, while they all were having tea, all of a sudden, Rajeev got up and kept a knife at Sakshar's neck and asked Sugandha to give whatever she had at home. While he inflicted a small wound on the neck of the child, Roshan tried to strangulate Sugandha with a rope. This made her give the locker keys to the duo, and they fled with the cash and jewellery. Sugandha's servant Nikhil tried to intervene but he was beaten up by the duo.
According to a rough estimate, about Rs 20 lakh in cash and jewellery of an equal amount were robbed. Police nabbed Rajeev while he was on the run on his motorbike.
Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh said, "The remaining two accused are on the run. The remaining amount will be recovered from them."
ACP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the stolen jewellery included necklace, bangles, earrings and 17 gold coins.
