With the rape case against actor Shiney Ahuja reportedly being treated as ‘priority’ by the Oshiwara police, members of a Jogeshwari-based family, who had registered a case of theft at the same police station, is skeptical about the investigation of the case as they think that their complaint will now take a backseat. Though the family had handed over four accused in the case to the police last week, the cops are yet to recover the stolen booty.
On June 7, Allaudin Qureshi and his family members had handed over their servant’s 13-year-old daughter to the Oshiwara police after she had reportedly confessed to having stolen ornaments worth Rs 5.5 lakh from their house. In the next couple of days, the family also got the girl’s boyfriend, her estranged mother and her paramour arrested after the girl claimed that she had given the ornaments to them.
“The stolen jewellery has not been recovered yet. With the police busy investigating the Shiney Ahuja case now, we hope that our case does not get lost into oblivion. Recently, one of the investigating officers told us that he is unsure whether we will get the jewellery back. During a meeting with Joint Commissioner of Police K L Prasad on Monday we expressed our dissatisfaction with the way the case was being handled. He assured us that some action will be taken,” said Qureshi.
“The accused girl was staying with us for the past three years after her father, who works in our shop, had requested us to take care of her. On June 6, after returning from a wedding, my wife and daughters kept their ornaments in a pouch inside a cupboard. The next morning my daughter saw the girl trying to hide a pouch under our car. When we questioned her, she confessed that she had stolen the ornaments,” said Qureshi.
