Rs 64,000, mobiles stolen from shops in Sector 41-D

Amidst a security cover of four security guards, cash worth Rs 64,000 and four mobiles have been stolen from shops in a row in Sector 41 D in the wee hours of January 27. While four security guards were "sleeping" inside, "unknown" thieves cut open the locks, opened the shutters and took away cash from five shops. The police had rounded up the security guards for questioning and have registered a case against unknown persons. Salik Ram, aged 32, the security guard at the ATM in booth number 137 has been arrested by the police.

There was an alarm in the Sector 41 D market when one of the persons managing a Verka booth in front of the shops saw the shutters of all the five shops wide open at 5 am in the morning.

Vishal Sood, a medical shop owner in booth number 138 said, "I received a call from the Verka Booth manager at 5 am and he said that my shop's shutters are open. I rushed to the shop and saw that it was the same with the other shops. I then called the police and the other shop owners".

Sood said that the thieves stole cash work Rs 20, 000 from his cash box including three mobiles.

Rakesh Kumar, the owner of another medical shop owner, 136 said, "I got a call from a stationary shop owner who got to know about the theft from someone".

Ironically, between the two medical shops, booth number 137 is an ATM with round-the-clock security. Inspector Charanjit Singh Virk, SHO, Police Station, Sector 39 said, "We had rounded up the security guard in the morning. He says that he was sleeping inside the ATM when the incident took place. Even the security guard at the gate of the society across the road said that he was asleep. We are suspecting foul play on part of the security personnel as they say that they did not hear even one shutter being rolled open".
