Rs 710 cr EPF default by 1718 firms: Govt

1718 establishments defaulted in depositing share of workers in the Employees' Provident Fund.

As many as 1718 establishments defaulted on amounts to the tune of over Rs 710.93 crore in 2011-12 in depositing share of workers in the Employees’ Provident Fund,the government said today.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha,Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said that complaints have been filed with the police and in courts against companies which erred in making these payments.

To another question,he said a total 32 labour-related disputes took place in the country in the first quarter of this year,resulting in loss of 3,37,648 man-days.

He quoted provisional data available with his department to put at over Rs 7.5 crore the loss in production due to these strikes and lockouts.

He also gave details about 199 labour-related disputes in 2011 and 429 in 2010.
