  • RSP leaders from West Bengal have reacted sharply against their Rajya Sabha MP Abani Roy for writing to the Prime Minister on a “corporate matter” involving two large private telecom firms.

“This is a corporate matter. Why should a political party intervene in such a matter? He (Roy) wrote the letter on his own. He did not consult the party before writing,” said Kshiti Goswami, senior RSP leader and Bengal PWD minister.

“We will ask for his clarification... we want to know why he wrote such a letter,” Goswami told The Indian Express.

The Express reported on Saturday that Roy has written to the PM urging him to stop merger talks between telecom giants Bharti and MTN. He also asked the PM to stop all government functionaries from using Airtel mobile services.

A senior RSP leader in Bengal said: “It has tarnished the image of the party. Following the central committee meeting, a state committee meeting will be held in Kolkata soon. State leaders will raise the issue.”

RSP general secretary T J Chandrachoodan said Roy wrote the letter without informing him. “I came to know from The Express report. I can only say that it is not our party’s stand to intervene in matters of two companies,” he said.
