The RSS on Friday started its three-day executive committee meet in Rajgir, the first-ever in Bihar. Though the RSS’ official agenda is to pass resolutions on environment, border security and village development, the working committee is also likely to discuss indiscipline and rumblings in the BJP brass.
The choice of the venue, Rajgir in Nalanda— the home turf of CM Nitish Kumar—could be more than symbolic. The principal Opposition RJD has alleged that Nitish, who otherwise talks of secularism, could not afford to displease the coalition partner by causing any discomfort to the RSS.
Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat opened the three-day meet, being attended by 356 RSS functionaries from across 39 units. Prominent leaders attending the meet included K Sudarshan, Suresh Joshi and Dattatreya Hoshwale.
“The RSS has always held that new blood should be infused in its all organisations, including the BJP. It has been a standard RSS line. It is a different thing that it has become more relevant after the Lok Sabha defeat,” an RSS functionary told The Indian Express.
RSS Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh MM Vaidya said: “It is not proper to call the BJP our political face. We are into several activities.” However, no BJP leader was present at the opening day. “Some leaders will join tomorrow,” said an RSS functionary.
