‘Run over’ by goods train,woman has miracle escape

She alleged that Constables Munesh Sharma and Sharif-ud-din tried to molest her and when she resisted,they beat her up. “When they threatened to rape me,I jumped before the train.”

GRP Inspector Paramhans Mishra said there appears to be no substance in the allegation. “The incident took place in the presence of a large number of people,” he said.

Saurabh Srivastava,an eyewitness who recorded the incident on his cellphone,said he did not see any GRP personnel harassing the woman.

“I saw her cleaning the railway tracks,�� Srivastava said. “When the goods train was approaching,she was asked to move away from the tracks,but she refused.”

As the train came closer,she lay down between the tracks. said Srivastava. “The two GRP men came to the spot about 20 minutes after the incident.”

The Hospital Superintendent Dr V N Tripathi,said: “Geeta does not appear to be in a sound mental condition. She sustained an injury on her throat.”

A resident of Gangapur in Unnao district,Geeta married Faridabad resident Ram Khilawan four years ago. Last week,she returned to her father’s home after a tiff with her husband.

“After the fight with my husband,I had been mentally disturbed for the past few months and had come to Kanpur with the intention of ending my life,” she said.
