All rural medical officers of Punjab will start a statewide stir from January demanding post-graduation quota for the cadre of rural doctors working under various Zila Parishads of Punjab.

This decision was taken at a state-level general house meeting of the Rural Medical Services Association, Punjab, here recently.

Alleging discrimination, Dr Aslam Parvez, the state president of the association, said they were ready for the do-or-die fight in favour of their pending demand for higher qualification for rural doctors. He demanded that 60% PG quota for MD/MS admission in all Government Medical Colleges of Punjab be immediately scrapped for the doctors working under the Health Department who work only for a few years and instead the same be given to the Rural Medical Officers who have been working in peripheral rural areas for many years.
