Rushdie no-show: Netaji's daughter says no one wants unrest on streets

Anita Pfaff, daughter of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on Thursday said it's unfortunate that government did not allow author Salman Rushdie to visit Kolkata. She, however, felt that it would have been dangerous if the controversial author reached Kolkata.

At an interactive session in Kolkata, Pfaff said: " I think it is unfortunate that Rushdie could not come to Kolkata . But at the same time I feel that it would have been dangerous if he had visited Kolkata.

" Salman Rushdie had been in danger for sometime . One would not want unrest on the streets of Kolkata . Religious intolerance is unnecessarily dangerous in many parts of the world," she said.
