  • Russia on Saturday expressed serious concern over nuclear security in Pakistan after the killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. "Pakistan is a nuclear power. Naturally, the current instability concerns the international community, including Russia," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said during a visit to the Pakistan Embassy in Moscow to sign the book of condolences on behalf of Russia on the death of Bhutto.

Losyukov said Bhutto’s murder was a destabilising factor which may have very serious consequences for the developments in Pakistan and the entire region.

Earlier, in a separate statement, Mikhail Kamynin, the official spoksman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said the uncontrollable situation in nuclear-armed Pakistan, with extremists fighting for power, may have unpredictable consequences for the whole region.
