Russian Sukhoi fighter crashes in east Siberia,crew ejects

A Russian Sukhoi Su-25 jet crashed in Eastern Siberia's Tran Baikal region,but both pilots ejected safely,according to Russian Air Force.

A Russian Sukhoi Su-25 jet crashed in Eastern Siberia’s Tran Baikal region close to border with Mongolia today,but both pilots ejected safely,according to Russian Air Force.

According NTV channel,the Sukhoi Su-25 (NATO codename Frogfoot) assault aircraft on routine training sortie in pair grazed its leader fighter and fell to the ground.

Pending probe,the entire Su-25 fleet has been grounded,Air force spokesman Vladimir Drik told the TV channel.

He said the two crewmen were quickly recovered by rescue teams,and the debris of the fighter did not cause any damage on the ground.

Another fighter landed safely,the channel added.

According to RIA Novosti,the fighter fell just about 30 metres from a house under construction and its fragments set a wooden fence on fire and damaged the roofs and window panes of several houses in the village.

The twin-engine Su-25 designed in the 1970s was widely used by the Soviet military for ground attack missions during the Afghan war,later it was used by the Russian Air Force in Chechnya for attacking militant forces in the Caucasus Mountains.
